TWU 30th Anniversary

Join us as we celebrate TWU’s 30th anniversary and Dan Duncan’s 10 years at the helm of the Northern Virginia Labor Federation!

In 1986, 3,000 Arlandria families received 30 day notices for their eviction. That launched a 10 year fight that ended with a class-action lawsuit and a housing cooperative that prevented low-income families from eviction. During the last 30 years, your funding has helped our teen leadership program take on racial equality from the school board to the city council. You have helped taxi drivers organize to challenge Uber’s takeover. You have helped new Americans fight anti-immigrant policies to keep Chirilagua from gentrification. Your donations have helped Tenants and Workers United and thousands of low-income immigrants organize for progress in Alexandria since 1986 -- and you are still needed.

We will be honoring Dan for his years of community service. He always did whatever he could to include TWU in labor activities, dinners or protests.

He embraced our struggle for immigrants’ rights and has steered the Federation to stronger labor and community ties.

We will also be introducing Evelin Urrutia as the new TWU Executive Director.
